85 percent of Spanish children consider themselves happy mainly when they play with friends and when they watch television. This is the result of a study carried out among schoolchildren, aged 6 and 12, by the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) and the Crecer Jugando Foundation.

More than 800 children from five schools, urban, public and subsidized, from various autonomous communities of Spain participated in the study, between the months of January and March of this year. The older children answered open questionnaires and personal interviews, while with the youngest children we have worked with drawing, aimed at getting to know what makes children happy. The 6 and 7-year-olds have a degree of happiness of 9, and the 12-year-olds have a degree below 7.29. As they grow older, happiness decreases and the relationship with parents loses weight in favor of friends or siblings.

The study, carried out by Fernando Gil, David Reyero and Biana Thoilliez, has dealt with five points: "Am I happy?", "My joys and my sorrows", "I ask for it", "I am good at", and " What makes me happier. " Its result shows that the degree of satisfaction of Spanish children is high and that they do not link aspirations with school achievement or the future with school success. Research indicates that children feel good the way they are, are conformists, and don't aspire to more. Researchers believe that educating yourself is aspiring to what you don't have, that education is nonconformist and that children should be taught that happiness is fine but that there are other things to fight for. There is a lack of encouragement and motivation for the little ones to always expect more. Being good with yourself is not incompatible with wanting to improve and advance. Spanish children, and I say this for my daughter and for the children I know, in terms of material things, they have everything. They live the reality of the law of least effort. Everything is given to them, offered, and they have little to ask for, and fight to get. I think that we must be aware of educating them to overcome laziness and apathy and be able to postpone immediate pleasures and gratifications, sometime, and prioritize objectives.
